“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)

Go and make disciples:  It doesn’t get much simpler than that.  Through all of the various activities, events, and groups that exist at Westwood UMC, this is the thread that ties all of them together in ministry.

I feel blessed that this church is home to such a large and active family of disciples that is dedicated to sharing God’s glory and grace with everyone we can.  Within the Worship and Arts ministry, this is especially evident in this season, as our Chancel, Gospel, and Handbell Choirs begin a new year of service.

This is also the time of year when we start thinking about commitments to ministry for the year to come through the All Aboard program.  In the materials distributed through that program, you will see, under the Worship and Arts heading, the many different types of opportunities we have to participate, whether the more obvious ones (singing, playing an instrument, ushering, greeting) or the not-so-obvious (technical support, writing text for worship, videography).  We’ve set a goal that, in the future, 100% of those who attend worship at Westwood UMC will also participate in the presentation of our worship services—whether in front or behind the scenes—at least once per year, and I look forward to the day when we can make that goal a reality.  Worship is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to come together in the Holy Spirit, and I hope that you will prayerfully consider what your role in our worship might be.  As always, contact me anytime to take the first—or the next—step in discipleship.

Making a joyful noise,

Mike Kelly
